NOTE: Since the renovation of my website, some older images and links featured on this page may be missing or broken.

-January 14th, 2024-

Holy moly. So Christmas came and went like a flash, didn't it?

God damn! Is it 2024 already!?!

As of this morning... I think I'm done with the majority of the renovations of the /pics portion of the Pak Item Archives. Unless for some reason I have to go back re-do something again, all that's left to get it to 100% is uploading the downloadable ZIP's of the content and coding up all the links on all the pages, then uploading all the HTML pages. The end result won't look like it's been too much work, but believe me, it's been LOTS of work creating all the images. Some of the old content had icon sets that were incomplete and missing pieces or mismatched in some way. I've tried to go through all of them and fix anything that was broken as well as create new matching pieces to complete the sets. In almost every category, I've added new content - either unused items I've created in the past, or sets of icons from the many versions of my own paks that I've created over the years. Just for fun, just because I figured it might be popular with folks, I even created a brand new set of Q3 style hi-res PNG weapon icons.

I'm not sure exactly when I'll get any of the /pics section up and running for visitors. I may decide to wait until I have EVERYTHING complete and ready.

Next up is the /sound portion of the archives. As I think I stated previously, I'm going to investigate finding a way to have it to where people can actually listen to and preview the sounds before downloading them individually. The old way, I just had everything piled into folders within different ZIP's and then visitors had to sort through it manually and pick out the sounds they wanted. If it turns out to be too complicated, then I'll just end up re-upping the old ZIP's again.

Hope everyone had a good Christmas.

Yeah, I know, I still have the Christmas graphics up on the entrance page. I'm gonna be "that guy" and leave my Christmas decorations up. Cuz I'm lazy.

-November 24th, 2023-

Happy (day after) Thanksgiving, folks!

Finished up redoing the couple of sections that were similar in style to the boring outdated old pages.
Now I can continue on working my way through the /Pics section, which I am about 1/3rd of the way through.

I was going to wait to upload the newer version of the entrance page, but this week as I was busy decorating the outside of the house with Christmas lights,
I got the idea to decorate my new entrance page for Christmas as well.

So I went ahead and uploaded the new entrance graphic.
Yeah, I know, the Christmas decorations are pretty goofy looking. But that's me.
Going with a sort of Ancient Roman theme. I'll probably end up doing similar things to decorate the entrance for other holidays throughout the year - New Years, Valentines Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc.

I'm considering doing something different with the /Sounds page when I get around to that part, perhaps including individual downloads for sounds and a way to preview them before downloading.
Not sure how to do it, my HTML skills are pretty novice. Perhaps I can find something somewhere on the web that'll give me a clue about how to implement something like that.

I still don't anticipate this place getting finished by Christmas.
It'll take either a lot of extra free time, (and I have no idea how much I'm gonna have this next month) or it'll take a Christmas miracle.

P.S. - Yes. Die Hard IS a Christmas movie.

-November 18th, 2023-

I'm still working my way through the /Pics portion of the archives. Creating menu images for all the pages is fairly time consuming. I'm getting better at it as I go along, so much so that I'm going have to go back and redo some sections that aren't up to par with the more recent stuff. I'm also adding some new things to a few of the sections. I have no idea when all of this is going to be done. By Christmas? Maybe, maybe not.

-November 10th, 2023-

I've completed most of the major menu graphics for the different sections of the Pak Item Archives area, but I think I will hold off on posting page updates until all of the sections are complete.
I've also reworked part of the entrance page graphics, but will hold off on updating that page until later as well.

As I mentioned last time, the old preview images for the items in the "/Pics" section were direct copies of the PCX files, 24 pixels tall. My current desktop resolution is 1920x1080, but my in-game resolution is still 1280x1024 using hudscale "2" in R1Q2, meaning PCX's that are 24p tall will actually be upscaled by 2x to display at 48p tall. This upscaling causes blurring of the images. I was super seriously kicking around the idea of just upscaling all of the preview images 2x, but I figure that...

It would almost be misrepresenting them to upscale them all 2x. Then again, at their original size of 24 pixels, they're so hard to see clearly. Neither option is ideal. But I suppose it makes more sense to keep them at their original size and resolution.

Again, these are old PCX images, which are basically outdated at this point. The clients people are using nowdays to play Quake2 (Q2pro, R1q2, etc) support PNG and JPG textures. For the life of me, I don't know why some people still use these old PCX things, but they apparently do. I've even had people question me about when I'm going to re-upload my Pak Item Archives. I don't know why people still use old PCX images for their paks when they could be creating their own using better quality PNG's. Nostalgia maybe, I dunno.

Speaking of nostalgia, I'm getting some mileage out of these Dana Carvey as George Bush gif's.

Anyway. Until next time...

-November 5th, 2023-

Uploaded Pak Item Archives main menu page. Page is mostly incomplete. Will begin creating menu link buttons soon.

When I begin work on the /Pics section of the Pak Item Archives, I will attempt to create new larger preview images for the items. The old ones were pretty small. Not sure how successful it will be.
I may have to stick with direct copies of the images. Since my client will obviously stretch the images to make them bigger, any screenshots I make of them at my current resolution (1920x1080) will likely result in blurry preview images.

-November 3rd, 2023-

Picking back up with the site renovations/revamping...

Uploading the main menu page and news page. Everything else is still under construction.

I have only played Quake2 a handful of times this year. My old Win7 machine that I usually did all my Q2'ing on went down back in December or January, likely a failing old mechanical HDD.

Mostly been sticking to GTA Online on PC. Been playing a little bit with [BTF]DeathStalker and Railwolf, as well as a couple communities of GTA players I met on Discord through them.

-January 2023-

Renovation of my website begins.

Giving the place a bit of a facelift with some new graphics etc. Working on it slowly - not sure when it'll all be posted. So far only the index page is posted - even this page isn't posted yet. Mainly putting this here just for my own info.

Been a while since any new updates here. I survived the covid. Got fully vaccinated about a month ago, in fact. Hmm... what else is new? Well,...

***NEW PAK FILE!***

NEW SOUND ADDED TO THE PAK ITEM ARCHIVES!

1 new custom sound created by |iR|Focalor
1. sound/world/xian1.wav
ACDC - Hells Bells intro
(This is an "old" sound I've used in several versions of my Focalor's pak, figured I'd add it just for the helluvit.)
Find it here within the "WORLD" sounds zip file download: http://focalor.tastyspleen.net/sounds.html

ALSO... I might soon be adding several various "/PICS" icons to the archives as well. I'm in the process of putting putting together a new pak, and I've come across lots of unused things and alternate versions of icons from past paks that could possibly be useful to someone.

ALSO ALSO... as I stated, I am in the process of putting together a new pak. This one will be a "back to basics" stock Quake2 themed pak. There will be NO weird shit like beer boxes for health pack models, pot leaf adrenaline models, weapon icons of non-Quake2 weapons, etc. It'll look, sound, smell, and taste just like Quake2 should. I'm also considering the idea of releasing it as a complete v11 pak along with several optional mini-pak add-ons intended to overwrite items in the main pak in order to easily add alternate sets of icons and other such suchness. (Is that a word? It is now. ENGLISH LANGUAGE, YOU WILL BE MY WHORE, AND I SHALL SODOMIZE THEE AT MY LEISURE.)

***NEW SECTION ADDED!***

I started racing NASCAR Racing 2003 Season with the guys in BTR last year. Since then, I've painted a whole slew of custom cars and trucks for various mods we've raced. I decided to create a section of my webpage to host them. Check them out. And also, if you happen to see this and you'd be interesting in obtaining a copy of the game so that you can start racing with us, be sure to contact either myself, [BTF]DeathStalker, or [BTF]Gator in the BTR IRC channel (#BTR on EnterTheGame) and we'll tell you how to get started. Everyone is welcome, the more the merrier.

Focalor Has Joined Clan |iR|
&
***NEW PAK FILE!***

I've been mulling over the idea of starting my own clan for week or two now. After thinking about it for a while, I realized how long it took to build up the roster of my old clan and all the work that went into a few other things like moderating forums, doing work with the clan server, etc. It wasn't really overly demanding or anything, although if I were to start a new clan, I'd definitely want the clan to have it's own messageboard. There could be a time in the future where I am not able to be as active as I am now, and I can't forsee exactly when something like that may or may not happen. I didn't want to start a new clan and then disappear and leave any other potential helpers in that endeavor holding the bag. Plus, I think I'd rather just focus on playing and having fun from now on as opposed to trying to recruit folks and focusing too much on growing a clan. I like helping folks out and being friendly, I don't mind that part at all, but (for now anyway, who knows what might happen down the road) I'd rather just be another face in the crowd.

Upon leaving [EoM], |iR|Dervish mentioned that I was welcome to come join them. They seemed to be the best fit for someone like me. I thought about perhaps joining [BTF], but I've always thought they were a little too big for a guy like me. They don't really need any help growing, and I'd rather join a smaller and more closely knit clan that doesn't focus as much on stringent rules of conduct. Immortal Reapers doesn't put up with noobish bullshit attitudes and doesn't really need any explicitly stated rules to solidify that sentiment, it's just "understood" and "common sense".

So today I finally joined up with Clan |iR|. They're by and large an instagib railz clan, but several of it's members are quite proficient in regular DM as well.

And speaking of |iR| members...

*****NEW PAK FILE ADDED*****

|iR|Goatkilla Pak now available!

My exit from clan [EoM]

Joined EoM: November 15th, 2007 ~ Left EoM: February 24th, 2009

Today I decided that it was time for me to part ways with clan EoM and to pass the role of clan leader back to [EoM]Pr0c3550r. My reason for this decision was "irreconcilable differences of opinions with other members of the clan's leadership". Basically, I wanted things done a certain way and was unwilling to discuss any kind of compromise. Honestly, it's a decision that I've put off making for quite some time. For a long time, I've felt quite out of place there, in addition to feeling as though much of my work as the acting clan leader went somewhat unappreciated.

I'm not really sure what I plan on doing in the future. Perhaps I will start my own clan and run things my own way, or perhaps I will join another existing reputable clan. I have already had a few offers tossed at me, but I've politely declined them for the moment. For the time being, I plan on just keeping my mouth shut, playing the game, and enjoying this somewhat of a vacation from the duties of clan leader and clan steward. That doesn't mean that I don't welcome any further offers, I certainly do, but I am just weighing all of my options at the moment before making any final decisions on what to do and where to go.

To my former clan brothers... I enjoyed the time we spent fragging together, and you know that you are more than welcome to contact me any time you like. The last thing I want is for my decision to cause any animosity or enemies where none are needed. Fuck the rumors and shit-talking, it's a mold that will destroy our tiny community if it is allowed to do so. Play the game, have fun, and ignore the idiots.

Focalor, out.
